Newt Luther

January 23, 1898 - January 29, 1992

Newton, or Uncle Newt was the one of R.M. Luther’s  sons who was more like a farmer than all the others.  Newt married Alma Lehman and they had five children.  Newt and Alma built a home on one of the lots from the family farm and lived there for a time.  He then moved about a mile away from the farm and lived in that home most of his life.  Newt and Alma had three girls, and two sons.  They were Lois, David, Doris, Joyce, and Terry.   David died very early in life from diphtheria.

For many years Newt worked as a mechanic for the Hoffman Implement Store along Rt. 56 (Scalp Ave.) not far from his home and the family farm. Uncle Newt was able to fix almost anything mechanical, be it plumbing or electric.   He was often called to fix something at one of his brothers homes.   Newt and Alma bought a small farm over in New Paris, PA and lived there after his retirement.  Later in life, he was the first of six of his brothers and sisters to move to the Arbutus Park Retirement Community, not far from the home where he grew up.  They spent the remainder of their lives at Arbutus and he died in 1992 at the age of 94.
